About Us
Welcome to Austenmead
Austenmead is delighted to have received the Bronze award for quality provision in the South-East region at the Elderly Accommodation Counsel awards 2019 and the Abbeyfield Quality Standard!
Austenmead is a lovely, large detached house set within beautiful grounds, which was originally built in 1900 and is located on the corner of Austenwood Common, within a short distance of both Chalfont St. Peter and Gerrards Cross high streets. The house became a supported living home in 1971 under the direction of Reverend Leonard Warriner, whose charitable aim was to provide ‘affordable, independent, supported housing’ for anyone and everyone.
Extensively renovated in 1994, the house continues to follow his philosophy and provides privacy, security and companionship for residents looking to make that first move out of their own property whilst still fairly fit and independent. The house is run on a not-for-profit basis, overseen by a team of volunteer trustees.
There are 11 en-suite rooms, some of which are sufficiently large to accommodate couples. Residents enjoy the privacy of their own front door, with the benefit of being able to call on a neighbour for a chat, share a home-cooked meal prepared twice daily by our House Manager or meet in our cosy lounge for a cup of coffee or at any one of our many social occasions organised by the trustees and house staff.
Come and meet our family – we are waiting to welcome you!
